Why do I want to use this tool?
You can use this tool to troubleshoot discovery related issues in OpenManage Essentials. You can execute troubleshooting tests with respect to various protocol (SNMP, WMI, SSH, WSMAN, PowerVault modular disk specific connection etc.) against the given remote device. This tool will also help you to verify the SMTP specific settings, SNMP trap listening, SNMP trap forwarding and TCP/UDP port availability. Refer to the tool’s Help and readme for more information.

Examples:
- You are not able to discover a supported device in OpenManage Essentials or the device is classified as Unknown device, using SNMP protocol. Run this tool by selecting the SNMP protocol, specify protocol specific settings, provide remote box IP Address. For Dell PowerEdge Servers, verify whether tool provides Server Administrator version in the result area for a successful test (using the SNMP Protocol for an in-band server discovery).
- You can verify if you can ping a remote device (using Ping/ICMP Protocol) and whether you can resolve its host name from a management station (using Name Resolution Protocol).
- You can verify whether Dell OpenManage Server Administrator services are running on a remote device (using Services Protocol).
- You can check warranty status for the given Dell Server (using service-tag).
- You can execute a command on the remote system and verify its output.
- You can listen to incoming SNMP traps.
- You can use this tool to forward test SNMP traps.
- You can use this tool to verify the SMTP settings to ensure OpenManage Essentials can successfully execute the Alert Emails action.
- You can use this tool to availability of the local or remote ports.
About Dell Troubleshooting Tool:
With this tool you can gather more information on failures and discovery of the network devices (for example: Dell servers, clients, or any other network resources) in the Dell system management consoles (For example: Dell Management Console, Dell OpenManage IT Assistant, Dell OpenManage Essentials etc.).
The Dell Troubleshooting tool also has the ability to verify: E-mails SMTP settings, Check for the availability of ports, run a command on a remote box, send and listen for SNMP traps, and check for warranty status. If you are a “Dell Management Console” user then you can make use of the “DMC logging” and “DMC Services” test cases under “Miscellaneous (Local Box)” tab.
This tool is optional and only needed if you want to debug discovery related use cases with respect to various protocols. It is available as part of the OpenManage Essentials installer media. It helps you find the problem. You have to manually resolve the issue outside of this utility.
Installation Requirements:
This tool is a Windows 32 bit application and requires the followings prerequisites to install it successfully.

- Microsoft .Net framework 3.0 and onwards
- You should have write permission on the folder where you have installed this utility. This is required to execute the require tests and show the results successfully
- You require administrator permissions to run the tool executable
